Diamond-Encrusted iPod shuffle Takes 'Fool and His Money' Prize

We're trying to understand why someone would buy this diamond-spangled solid gold iPod shuffle, which wins the prize for gaudiest second-rate music player. This one even outdoes that 18-karat solid gold iPod shuffle we pointed out to you last month, with this one tipping the more-money-than-brains pricetag scale of $20,000 compared with that solid gold shuffle's $19,343 price.

Adding even more expense and tawdriness to the equation are diamond-encrusted headphones. Although it's hard to decipher the Scandinavian language in which this is described, it looks like there are 430 diamonds festooning this otherwise utilitarian and screenless digital audio player. The irony doesn't escape us; at least they could've waited for the new iPod nano, and gussied that up with diamonds. Oh, wait, someone's probably going to do that, too. [e24, via LuxuryLaunches]

Logitech Pure Fi Dream iPod Speaker For Bedroom

Logitech Pure Fi Dream iPod Speaker For Bedroom

A Dream Come True: Logitech Introduces New Category of iPod Speakers – The iPod Bedroom Music System
Premium Audio, Innovative Motion-, Light-Sensing Technology, Radio, Alarm Make Logitech Pure-Fi Dream Perfect for the Bedroom
From Press Release:
A worldwide leader in iPod speakers, today announced the Logitech® Pure-Fi Dream™ Premium Bedroom Music System for iPod®, establishing a new category of iPod speakers for the bedroom. With premium audio, an innovative application of motion- and light-sensing technology, a built-in digital AM/FM radio and a dual alarm with battery backup, the Pure-Fi Dream speakers are perfect for any nightstand.

“Pure-Fi Dream is our most thoughtful and sophisticated design for iPod users,” said Jef Holove, general manager and vice president of Logitech’s audio business unit. “Though people use their iPods in the bedroom more than anywhere else, until today, a high-quality, iPod bedroom speaker system did not exist. First and foremost an impressive audio platform, the Pure-Fi Dream will make listening to iPod music in a bedroom a great experience any time of day. And at night, with its innovative light- and motion-sensing technology, as well as its alarm clock, the Pure-Fi Dream is the ideal bedroom system for iPod lovers.”

Unlike a clock radio, the Pure-Fi Dream is a premium bedroom audio system supported by 3/4-inch high-definition, soft-dome tweeters and 3-inch high-power, long-throw woofers. And by activating Logitech’s StereoXL™ technology, people can enjoy a wider soundfield that creates a quality audio experience.

But the Pure-Fi Dream offers more than just great audio. The Logitech Pure-Fi Dream speakers use the latest motion-sensing technology. For controlling the Pure-Fi Dream in a dark room, the motion-sensitive, backlighted control buttons automatically light up when a person waves a hand over the top of the speaker; the buttons automatically dim when the person has finished changing the speaker’s settings. The backlighted buttons make it convenient to set the alarm clock without turning on the light or fumbling in the dark.
The motion-sensing technology also extends to the Snooze function. Instead of hitting a button, one can simply wave a hand over the Pure-Fi Dream speakers to sleep for a few more minutes, eliminating the inconvenience of leaving the bed, inadvertently waking up a sleeping partner or accidentally knocking the iPod across the room. For those who prefer hitting the Snooze button with their hand, the Pure-Fi Dream also offers a prominently displayed tactile button located on the top of the system.

In addition to offering motion-sensing technology, Logitech also incorporated light sensors into the display of the Pure-Fi Dream iPod speaker system. The light-sensitive, auto-adjusting display brightens during the day, making it easy to read from across a room. The amber lettering clearly displays the time and date, iPod track information, radio stations and volume settings. And in the evening, when the display automatically dims, the speaker still provides information people want to see – including a one-of-a-kind LCD screen that provides track, song and artist information – without emitting unwanted ambient light.

A premium accompaniment to any iPod, the Pure-Fi Dream speakers offer one-button access to iPod playlists and radio stations. There are 24 separate presets available – six iPod playlists, six AM radio stations and 12 FM radio stations. The speakers also offer dual alarms, providing two settings – one for each partner. The alarm can be set to go off to an iPod track or playlist, radio station, or buzzer. And with a built-in back-up battery, there is no need to worry about missing the alarm.

For added convenience, with the included remote control, people can select their favorite iPod playlists, radio stations, control Volume, skip Forward and Back, Play, Pause, Shuffle or Repeat tracks, and Snooze the alarm from across the room. Like the speakers themselves, the remote control’s backlighted buttons make nighttime navigation easy.

Part of the “Made for iPod” program, the Pure-Fi Dream speakers present an attractive piano-black finish and minimalist design that complements the iPod aesthetic. When an iPod is docked in the system, the speaker charges the iPod.

To meet the diversity of iPod owners’ needs, Logitech also offers a family of speakers for iPod and MP3 players that includes the Logitech® Pure-Fi Anywhere™ Compact Speakers for iPod® (also announced today), the high-end Logitech® AudioStation™ speaker system, the lightweight Logitech® AudioStation™ Express portable speakers, the stylish Logitech® mm32 Portable Speakers for iPod and the flat-panel Logitech® mm28 Portable Speakers.

Pricing and Availability
The Logitech Pure-Fi Dream is expected to be available in the U.S. beginning in November. The suggested retail price in the U.S. is $249.99.

Fun Slides Carpet Skates

Fun Slides Carpet SkatesThe Fun Slides Carpet Skates are exactly what they sound like: carpet skates. You put them on over your shoes and then start skating away. I imagine it to feel similar to skating on tile with your socks. Or skating on rainbows with your imagination.

Smoking jacket

Smoking jacket

Fiona Carswell on her Smoking Jacket:

The jacket has a built-in pair of lungs on the front. As the wearer smokes, the lungs fill up with the exhaled cigarette smoke and begin to gradually darken over time. This project was a result of exploring reflective design as it relates to the body, behavioral choices, and information displays.

The jacket probably would've been more effective if she used real lungs. Probably more illegal too. Just like my bald eagle jacket made from real bald eagles.

Cat grows wings

Cat grows wingsThis Chinese woman claims her cat has grown two 4 inch long wings.
"At first, they were just two bumps, but they started to grow quickly, and after a month there were two wings," she said. Feng, of Xianyang city, Shaanxi province, says the wings, which contain bones, make her pet look like a 'cat angel'. Her explanation is that the cat sprouted the wings after being sexually harassed. "A month ago, many female cats in heat came to harass him, and then the wings started to grow," she said. However, experts say the phenomenon is more likely down to a gene mutation, and say it shouldn't prevent the cat living a normal life.

So the cat is either an angel or a mutant. Either way it wins! Oh, wait, right. The mutant one...

USB Mouse with VoIP technology

USB Mouse with VoIP technology
We have reviewed a few VoIP enabled devices recently. There where telephones that had this technology, mice and other accessories. Here is another accessory that can be used as a telephone when you talk using Skype.

You don't see these gadgets very often in the stores because they are not very popular. However, this one might be one of the best ones. This is the VM-01L from Skype-on. You can use it as a usual mouse and transform it into a phone by just flipping it open.

When you flip it open it turns into a regular phone that has all the features of the phone. There are even the number keys and you can dial the number playing your favorite game.

This mouse is different and is much more sophisticated than the ones that I have seen before. Besides, having the VoIP technology built in it has some more features that I would love to use.

1. It has a TFT display that has the resolution of 128 x 64 pixels where you can see all the info that you need. It is very comfortable because you can see who is calling when watching a video or working on some graphics when you do not see the notification on the computer monitor.

2. USB be cable 1.5 meters long. I uses USB 1.1, however it is still enough for the mouse and phone features.

3. The thing I like about the mouse part is the resolution of optical sensor. It is 1000 DPI which is pretty good for a mouse and especially a mouse like this.

4. The thing I like the most about this gadget is that you can connect 2.5 mm headphones with microphone and talk to anybody you want still having your mouse on the table. This is very comfortable because if not having this technology your would have to buy another mouse or just wait when you finish the talk if you want to do something on your computer while talking.

This mouse is not big and its shape is made in the classic style so no surprises here. Its dimensions are 55 mm x 105 mm x 33 mm. It is smaller then my regular mouse at home. And it weighs amazing 85 grams so it is lighter then a cell phone.
You can buy this mouse for about $ 40 – $ 50 and I am happy I bought one.

Tiny Wooden Speakers for iPod

These have more decorative purpose than music listening one. However, a nice idea when sitting somewhere far from civilization at night and there is nothing to do. You can listen to those with a group of people not just only one person. These wooden gadgets will be a good addition to your keychain.

The speakers are 1.5 watts each and they will not sound very loud. In addition you will not hear any bass boost effects coming out of these ones. They say that wooden speakers sound the best and that’s what SVEN uses. However the material does not matter when speakers are so small.

Wooden speakers will provide you about 4 hours of work without a recharge. Consider having some charger or additional batteries if you are going to have a long night stand somewhere at countryside.

They would look nice on your keychain however, I like the way the look and wooden style will make the keychain look more nature like.

Paparazzi, beware of new Blur spray

Paparazzi, beware of new Blur spray
The spray that reflects the light from the flash and makes you unphotographable is being created nowadays. The idea is to make your face seem like a white spot for the cameras. This gadget will help very many famous people hide from fans and paparazzi. However, we will not be able to see those funny faces they make sometimes.

The idea is to reflect the light with nanoparticles. The spray is full of those and all you got to do is spray it on your face and, vuala you cannot be photographed. The nanoparticles screw with camera sensors and your face becomes just a white spot.

However, I think that there are some drawbacks here: First of all, if the cameras can see the nanoparticles wouldn't people see them? It would look like you have run a marathon in Africa when you spray it on your face.

And what would they be doing if just some bright light falls? The face will be shining like an electric bulb. They really need to make it invisible for the human eye. Or just give it some mate color effect, like tanning.

Transformers Cell Phones - New Concept

Transformers Cell Phones - New Concept
Transformers theme has become quite popular today and there are many projects working on that. However, folks at Parkoz Hardware have come up with a very unique idea. Transforming cell phones, are they gadgets of the future?

Remember that cell phone in the Transformers movie that they put in the chamber and how it started transforming? Our cell phone could do that too consider Parkoz Hardware guys. Transforming from a usual cell phone to a destruction machine these gadgets would be very cool.

A pair of guns, mechanical legs and an evil mind makes the cell phone perfect mini weapon of mass destruction with reduced power of course. Well this would be helpful when threatening your pets or when asking your boss for a pay raise.

The only problem left is battery life. The battery needs to be very powerful in order to support this monster's movements. Oh, and one little problem, it needs to have some artificial intelligence micro chip in order to work, but that’s no problem for our noble minds.

2 Terabyte Big Disk Extreme + from LaCie

2 Terabyte Big Disk Extreme + from LaCie
LaCie just don't know how to stop making bigger and bigger drives. Now they have come up with a 2 Terabyte Big Disk Extreme + which has twice as much capacity as its little brother Big Disk Extreme that they announced not so long ago. How about that gadget?

Big Disks surely are great and everybody would like to have one, however the price is pretty high. Well, the 2 TB version, except for the humongous capacity, is not different from their older drives. It has 32 MB cache a Firewire 400, dual Firewire 800 ports, built-in RAID 0 and USB 2.0.

This drive also has a special button which you can assign to launch any application you want. Well, they would surely prefer that you launch Retrospect Express that will backup your data to this drive.

I know what I would do with my 2 TB hard drive. I would just fill it in with adult movies, just kidding. It's only for freaks that keep all the data on their hard drive and never delete it. Or for those who need to store archives and stuff.

What next? A 100 TB drive with a million MB of cash? Don't know don’t know. Will our PCs be able to handle this?

Norah Jones - Not to late [2007]

Norah Jones Not to late album
"Wish I Could" (Norah Jones, Lee Alexander)
"Sinkin' Soon" (Alexander, Jones)
"The Sun Doesn't Like You" (Jones, Alexander)
"Until the End" (Jones, Alexander)
"Not My Friend" (Jones)"
"Thinking About You" (Jones, Ilhan Ersahin)"
"Broken" (Jones, Alexander)"
"My Dear Country" (Jones)"
"Wake Me Up" (Jones, Alexander)
"Be My Somebody" (Jones)
"Little Room" (Jones)
"Rosie's Lullaby" (Jones, Daru Oda)
"Not Too Late" (Jones, Alexander)

Reviews of the album have been favorable. By January 29, 2007, it had become the most pre-ordered album of all time on Amazon.com, Jones' second album after Feels like Home to reach the merchant's all-time top ten pre-order list.

The album debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 405,000.In the United Kingdom, it entered the UK Albums Chart at number one, becoming the 800th number-one album in the history of the chart; it sold 60,500 copies in its first week.

Although the music of Norah Jones continues to blend pop, soul, folk, and country with a seasoning of jazz, her third album for Blue Note is the first where she's written (or collaborated on) all the material. Beneath the smooth surface lie darker strains on the album-opening "Wish I Could" (about a boyfriend lost to war), intimations of mortality in "The Sun Doesn't Like You," and the post-election horrors of "My Dear Country." The last seems to channel the inspiration of Brecht/Weill, while the equally bleak "Sinkin' Soon" is set to a jaunty Dixieland rag. Throughout, Jones's vocal intimacy and melodic warmth remain as disarmingly understated as ever. The soulful "Thinking of You," the countryish "Wake Me Up," and the syncopated "Be My Somebody" reflect the captivating style of her previous work. Although too much in the same midtempo mode becomes a dreamy lull, cut by cut, Jones's voice is irresistible
