Cesária Évora is a Cape Verdean folk singer. Nicknamed the "barefoot diva" for her preference of performing without shoes, Evora is perhaps the best internationaly-known practicioner of morna — a local genre related to Portuguese fado and Brazilian modinha, with a sensibility often compared to the blues. Her identity is also powerfully African and this too is strongly reflected in the Portuguese Creole songs that she sings.Paris has long held a powerful attraction for the singer, her long time producer José Da Silva, lives there and she loves to perform there.
