2009 Yamaha YZF-R1

The 2009 Yamaha YZF-R1 is the first ever street legal motorcycle with a crossplane crankshaft which previously could be only be found in their MotoGP racing bikes. The 90 degree positioning of the connecting rods in the crossplane crankshaft allows for better power distribution and removes inertial crankshaft torque for smoother torque output. Other new features include Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle for instant throttle response, D-Mode for rider selectable throttle control modes, and a new lightweight aluminum frame coupled with a rear frame of die-cast magnesium.
