Trick Or Treat

Graveyard Pudding with Whipped Cream Ghosts

4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into bits and softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 large egg yolks
1 cup sugar
6 tablespoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup cold heavy cream
2 teaspoons confectioners' sugar
1 (16-ounce) package chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
Gummy worms, garnish
In the top of a double-boiler, or in a metal bowl set over a pot of barely simmering water, melt the bittersweet and unsweetened chocolates, stirring, until smooth. Add butter and vanilla and stir to incorporate. Remove from the heat.

In a bowl, beat the egg yolks. In a medium, heavy saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Add the milk in a stream, whisking constantly. Bring the mixture to a boil, whisking constantly to keep lumps from forming. Remove from the heat.

Add 1 cup of the hot milk mixture to the yolks and whisk until smooth. Add the beaten yolk mixture to the saucepan with the hot milk and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat. Simmer, whisking constantly, until thick and smooth, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and whisk in the melted chocolate mixture. Transfer to a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing down on the surface to prevent a skin from forming, and refrigerate to cool.

In a medium bowl, whip the cream until soft peaks start to form. Add the confectioners' sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks start to form. Fold half of the whipped cream and most of the crushed cookies into the cooled pudding mixture. Spoon into a 9-inch square glass baking dish. Sprinkle with the remaining cookies.

Spoon the remaining whipped cream in blobs on the top for "ghosts" and garnish with gummy worms, slightly poking them down into the surface. Serve immediately, or refrigerate until ready to serve.

Shortbread "Fingers"

Yield: 5 dozen (we found the batch to be a little less than 5 dozen)
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
2 tsp almond extract
2 tsp vanilla
2 2/3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup whole blanched almonds
raspberry jelly

In bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla. Stir dry ingredients together, then add to wet and stir thoroughly. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes.

Working with one quarter of the dough at a time and keeping remainder refrigerated, roll a scant tablespoon full (I used a 1 oz. cookie scoop) of dough into a thin log shape about 4" long for each cookie. Squeeze clost to center and close to one end to create knuckle shapes. Press almond firmly into the end of the cookie for nail. Using paring knife, make slashes in several places to form knuckle. You want them a bit thin and gangly looking, since they'll puff a little when you bake them.

Place on lightly greased baking sheets (or use silicone sheets or parchment); bake in 325F oven for 20-25 minutes or until pale golden. Let cool for a few minutes.

Meanwhile, melt jelly over low heat in a small saucepan.
Carefully lift almond off of each finger, spoon a tiny amount of jelly onto nail bed and press almond back in place so the jelly oozes out from underneath. You can also make slashes in the finger and fill them with "blood.

**We actually sliced the ends off, to get a good severed look, then dipped them into the jelly.

Ladybug MP3 Player for Child by Mark Honschke

This is a childrens MP3 player which would also act as a voice mail pager. Parents would record a voice mail over the phone, which would then be sent and played as an mp3 file, through the retractable ear phones. The feet are also retractable, allowing the user to take the player off the belt clip and place on a desk for listening. The spring loaded wings open up to reveal a card slot for extra flash memory. Spare wings would come in a variety of colors and can be swapped to customize the player for each indivdual user.

Rollable Microwave Oven by Hyun Choi

It is a common microwave oven that can be used in a usual household; at normal times, it rolls up like a towel taking a relatively small space and can be easily moved around. But when it needs to cook and the power turns on, the rolled up cooking-plate stretches open as the electricity starts flowing and becomes strong enough to hold the weights of the cooking utensils. source

ISIS Puzzle Ball: Not As Tough As My Balls

The ISIS is a tricky puzzle ball that is apparently hard as hell to solve. Each one is unique, with only one solution. If you solve it you can win prizes like cash, a massage chair, and other crap.
The puzzle is a gleaming orb, handcrafted in England of a premier alloy of aluminum and constructed of precisely engineered, moveable bands. Each band is etched with hieroglyphics; the challenge is to position those bands in the right combination to unlock the ISIS. You are given 10 encrypted clues to decipher.

Let the fun begin! Then when you're pissed after a half hour pull out the trusty sledgehammer and solve that bitch real quick. Oh wait it says on the site if you damage it you're out. Who has time for a puzzle that lasts years anyways? Especially one that costs $200? There's only one puzzle I've been trying to solve for over a year, and that's how to get laid. You know, without paying.

Worrell Redesigns the Classic Stroller by Dan Clements

Worrell, Inc. Designer Dan Clements created a product that helps proud parents safely and stylishly take their little ones out into the world. Wiegen, a refreshing take on the classic stroller, was designed for flexibility given ever-changing family dynamics.

In addition to flexibility, emotional needs also drove the design of Wiegen. From this idea, three objectives were established: to create a means for a parent to outwardly express their affection for their child, to create a safe and comfortable environment for the child, and to create a product that was incredibly easy to use.

The Wiegen’s most innovative attribute is its unique stretcher system. This system consists of two parts: a neoprene shroud which a lightweight aluminum frame and Polypropylene stretcher support, and a baby sling with five-point harness (designed specifically for an age range of infant to 12 months).

This combination of neoprene components eliminates the need for cumbersome foam padding, as the neoprene conforms to the shape of the child. The air space between the two layers of the neoprene shroud insulates the stroller in cold weather. Snap construction allows the user to remove the shroud for cleaning, storage or color change.

Worrell, Inc. is a Minneapolis-based design consultancy, offering product design, research and engineering since 1976.
